Volkswagen fans (of which there are many) will be delighted to know that the beloved Polo will be going a remake in 2018 along with the arrival the newcomer compact SUV, the T-Roc – check out our reviews on the 2018 Polo and T-Roc.
For the first time ever, the VW Polo features a whole host of driver assistance features such as autonomous City Emergency Braking (which comes as standard), Pedestrian Monitoring System, Blindspot Detection, Park Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control – the 2018 Polo is sure to be the most technologically advanced Polo ever produced.
On the other hand, the T-Roc features much of the same spectrum of safety features, namely Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, Lane Assist and the Front Assist area monitoring system which features Pedestrian Monitoring and City Emergency Braking, as is with the Polo. The T-Roc is also fitted (as standard) with Driver Alert System which is like a high school teacher who scolds you when you fall asleep in class.
Euro NCAP is an organisation that takes new vehicles due to be released in the next few months and tests their safety capabilities, after which they produce a rating called the NCAP Rating which can go as high as 5 stars – especially if you’re a Volvo vehicle. It is not unusual to see cars score 1 or even no stars at all during testing, however this does not stop these cars from being produced or, in the case of South Africa, from being bought – vehicles like the Renault Kwid, Kia Picanto and Datsun GO received very poor safety ratings however they continue to be bought in huge numbers.
Watch the two German budget vehicles show that cheap cars can still achieve high safety ratings:
